Packing Tips

The Movers Moving & Storage has been helping people in the Tampa Bay Area move for 40 years! We know a thing or two about having a smooth move. Here are a few of our best tips to help make your packing process become a little easier and quicker.

Start Early!

  • Start gathering materials for packing as soon as you know you are moving. Grocery or liquor stores often give away boxes for free. We offer free delivery on packing materials with a minimum order of $150 in the Tampa Bay Area.

  • Gather a variety of boxes and materials. Different size and weight items require different size boxes. Packing paper, bubble wrap, tape is also necessary for fragile items.

  • Packing is often one of the most time consuming parts of moving. Start packing as soon as you know you are moving. Just 30 minutes of packing a day can get you a huge head start.

  • Gather a variety of boxes and materials. Different size and weight items require different size boxes. Packing paper, bubble wrap, tape is also necessary for fragile items.

Which Box to Use?

  • Heavier items go into smaller boxes. For example you would always want to pack books or files into small boxes. Large boxes are good for light but large items such as linens and bedspreads.

  • Be sure to fill the top of boxes with crumpled paper. This allows boxes to be stacked without the top caving in and causing damage.

  • Be sure to put extra tape on the bottom of boxes. Often times if just one strip of tape is used the bottom of boxes will open in transit and spill out the contents of the box.
  • Labeling which room a box was packing from as well as what’s inside will make unloading and unpacking a much faster and easier process. No guessing whats inside!

  • When packing dishes make sure to stand dishes on their side, never stacked on top one another as you would in a cabinet. Be sure to wrap with plenty of paper. You can put heavier dishes on bottom and more fragile items like wine glasses on top so they don’t get crushed. Don’t forget to label FRAGILE!
